 Compare and Despair

I suffer from this a lot. It is not the fact that I am unhappy for people and their success, it is the fact that when I see it, I feel like I am failing because I have done so much less. It is something that I am working on changing and trying to be aware of.

One perfect example is the fact I heard about one LinkedIn connection who built his marketing agency to seven figures in under two years. I caught myself thinking that I should be there before I even understood if it is even anything I want.

I think that happens to us a lot. We create goals and dreams based on what we see other people do, we chase them and sometimes we accomplish them but we never feel great or fulfilled because it is nothing we ever really wanted.

Chunking out my Days

One thing that I am trying is to plan out each day to focus on a specific topic or client. Today I think it went alright. I did catch myself a few times going between things but overall the majority of my focus was on my client and getting those projects complete.

What Did I Accomplish Last Week?

  1. Finished my course on how to get your side business off the ground, which I really found helpful.
  2. Talked with a startup founder about my startup idea
  3. Completed some client projects
  4. Networked with two new people
  5. Learned about Startups
  6. Learned about how to build friends and enhance relationships (this may sound basic but it always helps to refresh and learn more)
  7. Developed a growth plan for a client
  8. Followed up on potential new business

The Power Of Small

While on the treadmill, I was listening to the book “The Like Switch” by Jack Schafer, Ph.D., and Marvin Karlins, Ph.D..

I only listened for about 30 minutes and I thought that this was useless it is only thirty minutes but when you think about it, if you do it every day, it becomes a lot. Listening or reading for just 30 minutes equates to 187.5 hours or more than a week of learning.
