January 5th but on the 6th

I want to document the progress that I am making towards working on my goals which are to become fit, grow my marketing business, start my side projects, and launch my startup.

What I am trying to do is to chunk my time or divide it into doing work on specific days, it is going alright but surprisingly I need to follow the schedule that I put out there or it just does not work. Crazy how just because you put something in your calendar but don’t actually do it, does not work.

I know we hear a lot about action and the fact that we need to take action but right now I am focus in learning what action I need to take. I know that I need to attract customers and get people to buy my product but it always seems like there is more missing. The good news is that I can always figure it out.

One thing that I have done is to fill out the business model canvas, which I have found to be really helpful. It helps you see in a very fast and informative way, what parts you need, but not exactly what steps to take. Again the good news is that I can find the steps I need to take as long as I know where I am going. Another thought I had was the fact that I need to be sure I am having all the parts in place that I know about.

Start with a small segment of a big market

Start with markets that are so small no one thinks they are valuable

Be an order of magnitude better than the next opportunity on some key dimension.

Have a monopoly that lasts over time. Not first mover but the last mover. Microsoft was the last operating system, Google was the last search company.

Overvalue growth rates and under value durability

Characteristics of a Monopoly (they all have a time dimension)

  • Proprietary Technology
  • Network Effect
  • Economies of scale
  • Branding

Keep improving on it at a pace where no one can catch up

Being involved in an industry with a lot of innovation is not that great for your business but it is for society

Why will this still be the leading company 10-15 years from now?
