We Have Forgotten
Yesterday was the 19th anniversary of 9/11.
A day that we promised we would never forget.
A day where we united as a country around the common cause of supporting one another, no matter what we believed and promised to stay that way.
A day where we reached out to friends, families and strangers to offer our support, lend a helping hand or just listen and promised to continue to do so.
A day where we realized that together, we are so much better, so much stronger and we get so much more done and we promised to not forget.
A day where we could look past our political parties and actually see people for people, we promised to continue to do this.
A day where we saw the worst in humanity but we also saw the best. A day where even with all the darkness around us, what was most clear was the light that each one of us had and how we could spread that light for good. We promised not to forget.
A day where we realized that life is precious, it can be gone an in instant so holding grudges, building up hate and arguing with family and friends just was not worth it. We promised we would not forget.
A day where we realized that the heroes in our life are the ones that run in when everyone is running out. The people that knew they probably would not be coming back but they went anyway. We promised to not forget.
What has happened to us?
When did we forget?
When did we become so miserable to one another just because we do not agree with one another?
When did we decide to focus on our differences rather than our commonalities?
When did we think that it was okay to go and hate someone, while trying to spread love.
Remembering 9/11 is not posting a fucking picture on the anniversary. It is living out and remembering everything we learned that day.
Everything we promised never to forget.
