 Boring Ideas Win

I have always been drawn to the big ideas, the ones that are flashy and exciting, I feel that is the way a lot of us feel about our passion, we always want it to be something bigger than what we have. We want it to be so big that it overwhelms us which ironically causes us to take no action.

What I have realized is that these flashy ideas, rarely work because they rarely solve a real problem. They do not solve a core problem people are facing, they solve problems are not invested in solving because it is not painful or rewarding.

If you want to find success, focus on solving those boring problems that are a huge pain.

Do the boring work

Just like boring ideas, the people that win are the ones that do the boring work.

They do the research.

They fill out the forms

They look at their finances

The plan, execute and learn.

They do not get bogged down in thinking that they are too good for something. They know what needs to be done and they do it.

Consistency is key.

I know this is not a new big idea but it is something I am always working on.

I used to not do anything because I did not have enough time. I thought I needed two hours of free time to just do anything so I did nothing.

Building in small times of consistent work will get you everywhere you need to go.

Lessons Do the work

Founders do research

Figure out how you can build a connection

Do not sell, ask for feedback

Show that you are listening to them and that you are making progress

Get to know the base level of an industry

The first meeting is not the end state

If you want to get to the person at the top, talk to the people below them as well.

You are going to make mistakes

Narrow down your focus to grow faster.

Go to the areas where you have the highest rate of hearing a yes and being able to execute successfully at that level.

Got to a tipping point when they reached 100 stores and 100.000 users which got the attention of the regional and brand managers to reach out to them.

Don’t be afraid to remove features as you grow

No science to knowing when to pivot it comes to knowing the business, industry, and market and our gut feel.

Sunk cost fallacy does not let it keep you from investing in a bad idea.

You are going to spend money on just learning.

User growth is all about the product experience.

Take something that everyone knows that they should do and combine it with something they want to do.

Gamify what you are doing and get people excited.

Empower people to feel smart.

Help people create a habit

Target people that are the most efficient in using your app and moving down the pipelines.

You are always going to be improving

Don’t just look for totally new customers but look for customers within the organization that is already a client.

He knew that it was going to be a success because it took 45 days to process a receipt and they did not lose a significant amount of customers.

People were willing to deal with all the hurdles of the process because they loved the outcome so much.

Always try to get feedback from the no’s and follow up with them a week after the meeting. Believe what they are saying is right and what you could do about it.

Believe in the results and that they are real.
